The bloggin’ experience has to be analyzed by its different aspects. I think that, as an exercise of using of the English vocabulary and grammar, blogging is almost perfect: it’s a situation for the students to use their previous knowledge, to recognize their mistakes and to increase their capacity to express themselves correctly, about ordinary topics. The blogging takes the advantages that computer technology gives to the teaching of English language: it provides a nearly automatic source of audiovisual supplies, connectivity in situ of the learning developed by the classmates, feedback between the teaching and the learning of the students, etc. In that sense the use of the computer in the English teaching is an aspect that has been used very well.
By the other hand, the topics chosen as themes for the blogging has been, the most of them, very inappropriate, because they implied decisions that delay the exercise of using the English language. That because making the choice of “the best thing” sometimes is difficult and no relevant for the purposes of the class. I think that the “career related” themes has been the better required posts, because they’re very useful for develop an “instrumental English”, with which the students can, eventually, resort in their own projects… is remarkable the fact that the most of the publications in social sciences are written in English.
To conclude this post, my opinion of the blogging experience is that is a nice exercise, sometimes a little boring, but useful and helpful in the end. Its principal virtue is that it makes you use your previous knowledge and add much vocabulary in order to express yourself in a plausible way (not only to be understood, but to be understood with precision). It surely develop my English a lot.
